So a buddy of mine wants me to ride with him on some laps at Laguna Seca. He has a spare helmet, but it’s unlikely to fit my melon. What is an acceptable Snell SA2015 helmet that is basic?

I go through revzilla, fast shipping and cheap prices.

They typically have loaner helmets at track events. Best to verify and not assume.

That is the basest, bare minimum helmet I would ever consider. And depending on the track rules, you may need to have a full-face helmet just to be in the car.

Thank you for that tip. Do people ever buy or sell helmets secondhand, in your experience?

Like adabofOppo said, check track regulations, specifically with the car in mind. Track near me requires full face for convertibles.

Dude, just bubble wrap.
All good in the hood.

Doubtful. I’m not saying it isn’t in the realm of possibilities, but you’d only replace a helmet once the certification is up, unless you’re funded enough to just go get another one for fun.
Odds are low. But check eBay anyway. Maybe you’ll find a deal. You also need to know your size among all the brands. They all fit different. If you have one close to you, go visit a JEGGS or a Summit Racing store and try them on. Or a local speed shop. Even a bike shop might be able to order one for you.

This is definitely the most cost effective route.

If open faces are allowed and you definitely will never have an interest in doing lots of autox, track days, or go karting, then its probably your best bet if you cant borrow one or rent one from the track. Ideally look at the oldest SA/SM rated helmet that would be allowed by the track rules if you are buying. Out of date helmets for other groups could be a good bargain for single use like that, without sacrificing safety. DOT full face motorcycle helmets are fine too if the group allows them (again, check with the group running the event).
If all else fails and you actually want a cheap helmet and will use it for other purposes, check out the brand zamp. I had bought mine on saferacer.com since they had a coupon running at the time for like $10 off. They should have sub $200 helmets that are of very good quality and rated SA2015.

Thanks. I’ll keep researching.

I have the large size of what you posted and don’t need it now that I needed a closed-face helmet for the track. I bought that one for autocross and used it twice. If the track allows open-face I can sell you my used one for the cost of shipping it you'd like.

That one is Snell 2015? I have to make sure about a closed-face requirement...
Thank you. If it will suffice, I will take you up on your offer.

Yeah I got the cheapest SA2015 on Amazon at the time. It was required by my autocross group. It's huge and has tons of foam, but it works fine as is. No problems in 3 events other than bumping my head on the window rim in a spin lol

I would love to take you up on your offer. Let me see what I can learn and look you back up.

I’ve long been a fan of G-force helmets, and they tend to fit the shape of my head well.
